Guidelines and Policies

Dear Friend of Evergreen,
Thank you for buying property in Evergreen. Because we trust that you want the cemetery to remain a beautiful place of repose, we are asking you to comply with these maintenance guidelines and cemetery policies:

MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES

  1. LEVELING GRAVES: For maintenance purposes, graves will be leveled to the ground within one year after the date of burial, unless you instruct the caretaker that you want to mound the grave(s) on your property. Because maintenance workers will not trim grass on mounded graves, please assume that responsibility yourself.
  2. GATHERING FRESH FUNERAL FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS: If, after a funeral, you want to keep some of the fresh flowers placed on the gravesite, please gather them within the week after the funeral. Maintenance workers have been instructed to remove the wilted flowers one week after a funeral is held.
  3. ANCHORING FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS: If you place fresh or artificial flowers on a grave, please anchor them as securely as possible to keep them from being scattered by high winds. Maintenance workers will put scattered flowers in the area enclosed by a black chain-link fence in the central part of the cemetery. Arrangements in the fenced-in area that are not claimed in a timely manner will be discarded.
  4. KEEPING FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS SEASONAL: Please remove artificial flowers when faded and/or when the season (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July) is over.
  5. MAINTAINING MONUMENTS: Please maintain the markers and monuments on your grave sites. If necessary, ask the company from which you purchased the markers or monuments for assistance.
  6. ASKING BEFORE PLANTING: Please get permission from the caretaker before planting trees or shrubs on your grave site. Some will grow too large for the site, impinging on other owners’ sites and/or hampering workers’ ability to mow over and around graves. Such trees and shrubs will be cut back or removed.
  7. TRIMMING AROUND GRAVE DECORATIONS, TREES, AND SHRUBS: If you place solar-powered lights, statues, wind chimes, banners, benches, and/or other ornaments on or around a grave, please keep the grass around them trimmed. Also, please trim around any trees or shrubs that you have planted on your site.

CEMETERY POLICIES

  1. COST: The purchase price of a 2-grave lot is $1000, half of which pays for permanent upkeep. A limited number of single grave sites are available for $500 each.
  2. VERIFICATION OF GRAVE SITE: A member of the family of the deceased or some other person designated by the family MUST verify for the caretaker that the grave site is the correct one before a grave can be dug. To that end, the family member or designated person MUST sign Evergreen Cemetery’s Directive for Placement of Grave Site at the time of the meeting with the caretaker to identify the specific location of the interment.
  3. BURIAL LIMITATIONS: Each grave site is limited to one conventional burial OR two cremation burials OR two infant burials. There will be a $250 interment charge for the second cremation or the second infant burial on a grave site.
  4. DEEDS: Deeds to a site or lot MUST NOT be transferred to another person, but may be purchased by the cemetery board at the original cost.
  5. MARKERS: Concrete or metal corner markers must not be removed. Headstones and footstones must be placed within the markers.
  6. NOTIFICATION: The cemetery caretaker must be notified before a traditional or cremation grave is dug or a body exhumed.

Thank you for being a part of our Evergreen family and for adhering to Evergreen Cemetery guidelines and policies.
Sincerely,
The Evergreen Cemetery Board of Directors
